Carlo Ferrara worked as a watchmaker in his father’s shop in Italy for 30 years before deciding to create a watch of his own vision. In 1991, he launched his own brand, featuring watches with a unique take on the regulator-style dial – without the hands centrally located. Ferrara used a base Swiss ETA movement, and modified it for his design. The watch has earned the nickname the “Dancing Regulator” for the way the hour and minutes hands move up and down the watch dial and do a slow dance-like 180 degree turn at the top and bottom of the track.
The Regulator model was available in either steel or 18k yellow gold with a variety of dial and numeral combination. The present example is part of a limited series cased in 18k white gold, and is in mint condition. An unusual yet versatile design, the Regulator model blends Italian design with Swiss manufacturing. With his unique Regulator design, Carlo Ferrara achieved his goal of designing and producing a watch with an exclusive look that is extremely wearable.
