Rolex introduced the ref. 5513 Submariner, a no-date model, in 1962. The model would undergo several slight changes to the dial before its withdrawal from the market in the mid-1980s. With its clean, balanced design, it has remained sought-after by collectors of vintage Rolex.
The present reference 5513 is an excellent example of an early Maxi-Dial, which is a Rolex submariner with a dial fitted with larger lume plots. The early Maxi dial has some quite unique characteristics with feet listed first in the depth rating, followed with the = sign and the equivalent in meters, open 6 in the 660ft rating and the last reference 5513 with the word SUBMARINER below the depth rating. This early iteration of the maxi dial was introduced in 1977, and is the rarest type of Maxi Dial and prized by collectors . With the tritium on the hour markers and Mercedes hands faded to a warm yellow, the present watch is a fine example of the timeless appeal of the ref. 5513
